        大学教育是一场深刻的个人成长之旅，在此期间你们将系统性地构建自己的知识体系，学到的将不再仅仅是“是什么”，更是“为什么”和“怎么办”。在此期间你们的核心思维能力将得到全面提升，你们将更好地发现自我，探索人生方向，规划自己的人生道路。期望你们通过大学学习获得更广阔的发展平台，打开人生格局，成为更有责任感的公民。

University education is a profound journey of personal growth. During this period, you will systematically build your knowledge system, learning not only "what it is" but more importantly "why it is" and "how to solve". You will systematically develop critical thinking, enable better self-discovery, explore life directions, and make better plan for your career. It is expected that university study motivates you to gain a broader platform for development, expand your perspectives, and become citizens with responsibilities.

        初至校园，你们将面临从高中到大学的巨大转变和挑战：学习模式转变和时间管理的挑战；语言障碍和学业压力的挑战；独立生活与个人财务管理的挑战；孤独感与思乡情绪的挑战；自我认同与心理落差的挑战；人际关系与社交拓展的挑战；人生目标与个人发展的迷茫和选择的挑战。对于国际学生，你们还将面临跨国文化差异冲击的挑战。然而青春的成长就是敢于面对各种挑战，希望你们聚焦学业表现、培养文体爱好、发展同窗友谊，互帮互助，互相鼓励，尽早适应大学生活。

 Upon first arriving at the campus, you will face significant transitions and challenges from high school to university: challenges in different learning modes and time management; language barriers and academic pressure; challenges of independent living and personal financial management; feelings of loneliness and homesickness; challenges to self-identity and psychological adjustment; navigating interpersonal relationships and exploring social connections; and the confusion and choices regarding life goals and personal development. For international students, you will additionally face the impact of intercultural differences. However, your personal growth lies in the courage to confront different challenges. And I urge you to focus on your academic performance, cultivate hobbies in arts and sports, develop friendships with your classmates, help and encourage each other, and adapt to university life as soon as possible.

UWE College/SIE is a big family integrating Chinese and international students. For domestic students, the college is committed to creating a first-class environment of "Internationalization at Home". You will interact daily with international students, be taught by many excellent teachers who have studied abroad and by foreign faculty from our partner institutions, and you will also have opportunities for short-term study tours at universities oversea. For international students, the Clinical Medical Programme is so cost-effective with a high coverage of scholarship . Our college, with nearly 20 years of teaching experience in English, provides rich clinical training resources and one-stop efficient management services, and organizes colorful extracurricular activities to help you gain in-depth understanding of national conditions of China. Furthermore, the college offers various language and academic support services.         你们加入海医之际，适逢学校迎来百年难遇的发展新机遇。原上海交通大学副校长陈国强院士2023年加盟海医担任校长，开启了学校高质量发展的新征程：海南医学院更名为海南医科大学，进入海南省重点支持院校行列，学校重新明确发展定位，大刀阔斧推进改革并取得显著成效，学校在学科建设、人才引进、科学研究等方面取得重大突破性成果。学院同样迎来高速发展新时机，西英/国教两院合一，主体教务回归学校统筹，学院院长公开竞聘，管理团队重新优化整合。积极筹备来华留学质量认证，并以此为契机推动学院高质量发展。进一步明确办学定位，提升办学层次与质量，为在院学生营造优良的在地国际化教育氛围，打造中英联合办学名片和留学海医品牌，持续服务于学校发展大局和海南自贸港建设。希望各位同学都能充分利用这一机遇，努力提升自我，用优异的成绩助力海医的发展！

Your enrollment in Hainan Medical University coincides with a rare development opportunity for the university. Academician Guoqiang Chen, former Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, joined Hainan Medical University as President in 2023, launching a new journey of high-quality development for the university: Hainan Medical College was renamed Hainan Medical University and listed among key universities supported by Hainan Province; the university redefined its development scheme, vigorously promoted reforms and achieved remarkable outcomes. Significant breakthroughs have been made in areas such as discipline construction, talent recruitment and scientific research. Meanwhile, our college is also embracing a new opportunity for rapid advancement: merge of UWE College and School of International Education, teaching affairs coordinated at the university level, open recruitment of college dean, and re-optimization and integration of the management team. We are actively preparing for the Higher General Education Accreditation for International Students in China (HGEAIS), which serves as a valuable opportunity to promote college development in high-quality. We will further define the long-term goals of the college , keep improving the education level and quality, create brilliant environment of "Internationalization at Home" for students, build golden Sino-British joint education and brand image of "Studying at Hainan Medical University"， all of which would continuously support the overall development of the university and speed up the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port. It is hoped that every student can take the advantage of this opportunity to strive for self-improvement and contribute to the development of Hainan Medical University with outstanding achievements!

        陈国强校长在秋季开学典礼致辞中强调“以改变为刃，仁心为帆，刻画新时代‘东坡答卷’”，就是要求在校学生改变浑浑噩噩、得过且过、不思进取的消极心态，以积极的态度、青春的热情和拼搏的勇气为实现人生梦想而努力奋斗！不积跬步无以至千里，希望每名同学都能珍惜大学生活的每一天，日学一新，聚沙成塔，勤思多问，以臻卓越！

In his speech at the autumn opening ceremony, President of HNMU Guoqiang Chen requested all the freshmen to depict "Dongpo Answering" in the new era using change as the blade and benevolence as the sail. This calls on students to change the negative mentality of aimlessness, mediocrity, and lack of ambition, further urges students to study hard with a positive motivation, youthful enthusiasm, and courage for your dreams. As no one can reach a thousand miles without taking small steps, it is my expectation that every student should cherish each day of your university life, learn new knowledge every day since many a little makes mickle, keep thinking and asking questions until excellence achieved.
